Staircase from Ham House

This staircase is a detail from a 1:12 scale miniature architectural interpretation of Ham House, a unique 17th-century English country house. Carved martial trophies set in the balustrade are surmounted by carved wooden fruit baskets holding gilt bronze candelabras. The interior features fresh colours, bright gilding and white stucco detailing. The full-scale house is a faded and worn survivor of a turbulent century in English history. The miniature reimagines Ham House in its glittering heyday when it was an important location for political power-play.
