Bulgarian Kukeri Mask #2

Different craft techniques are used by Lyudmil Yordanov to craft this kukeri mask: woodcarving, leatherwork and horn work. The face is formed with hand-carved wood, usually pine or red willow because they are light and soft, then the wood is hand-sanded to a flawless finish. The wooden base is covered with animal leather, mainly sheepskin. Last but not least, fearsome horns are attached, sanded by hand and sealed with varnish.
