Homo Faber at London Craft Week 2025

Textile sculptor Maria Pratas based in Portugal & Mexican-Spanish fellow Carolina De la Parra Quintana

Master artisan Maria is fuelled by her curiosity and love of experimentation, as well as her passion for sourcing various natural materials (such as wood and fibres) to transform two-dimensional textiles into wondrous shapes. A full-time visual arts teacher in addition to her craft work, she combines the technical and emotional aspects of craftsmanship to awaken artistic expression.

Carolina studied textile design at the Universidad Iberoamericano in Mexico City but felt a strong pull towards hands-on creation – a yearning reinforced during her time in Homo Faber’s Young Ambassadors Programme. She is intrigued by the evolution of traditions and techniques which fuels her experimental approach to textiles.
