Ceramicist Kartini Thomas based in France & Portuguese fellow Álvaro Nogueira
American ceramicist Kartini’s background in biology has had a profound influence on her distinctly playful ceramics, which are inspired by monsters and comprised of pieces that can interact with each other. With a Diploma in Applied Arts from ENSAD, she now works on Oléron Island on France’s Atlantic coast and exhibits internationally.
Surrounded by traditional clay swallows from Portugal’s Caldas da Rainha growing up, fellow Álvaro refined his ceramic skills during a bachelor’s degree in Product Design – Ceramics and Glass, followed by working in various local studios. Up to now, he has mainly worked with terracotta.
