Textile pleater Harumi Sugiura based in France & Italian-Colombian fellow Marcella Giannini
Harumi combines her passion for the effect of light and movement on fabric to create natural-dye pleated textiles with three-dimensional allure. Originally from Japan, she moved to France in 2008 and was hugely influenced by the work of Michel Garcia. She now works from Le Couvent in Marseille, an artists’ community.
Marcella studied at Rome’s Accademia di Belle Arti followed by a master’s in Graphic Arts in Spain. Today she is based in Marseille and specialises in handmade paper, natural dyes, printmaking and textile arts. She came across the work of Harumi while she was working at Couleur Garance.
