This course is run by ceramicist Gina Negroni. Using various modelling techniques, a formal study of the human figure through clay will be conducted, focusing on creating faces, busts, fragments, bodies, or hands. The premise will be to work on modelling from the inner void. This approach will involve using techniques such as slab-building, coiling, and sculpting to gradually shape the piece, including carving, adding, and smoothing. Initial study sketches may be created. Gina will help you work on basic pieces with excellent technique. You will also learn safe firing tips for sculpture in a high-temperature electric kiln. Different surface treatments, such as oxides, engobes, and glazes will also be explored. This workshop is a 20-hour programme with sessions lasting four hours each, held over five consecutive days from Monday to Friday.
