Ilham Glaoui is founder of Nour Bougie candle atelier, a place alive with Morocco’s centuries-old tradition in wax and light. The women artisans of Nour Bougie master ancestral candle making techniques to make contemporary and minimalistic objects. A defining moment for the atelier came when Inwi, Morocco’s leading telecom brand known for supporting bold cultural projects, commissioned a monumental three-metre high wax lantern. The challenge transformed the workshop’s rhythm and forged a new sense of ambition.
Among the artisans, Hafida Zizi sculpts wax as she would clay, drawing on Moroccan designs such as arches, earthen jars and Atlantic stones for inspiration. Each morning, the studio awakens to the soft hiss of melting wax and the crackle of cooling candles. Together, the craftswomen and craftsmen handmake candles that carry memory, resilience, and the enduring beauty of tradition. The pieces are designed to illuminate and to spark an intimate dialogue with the senses.
