Handloom weaving: a Scottish heritage

Step into Araminta Campbell’s atelier on the outskirts of Edinburgh, housed in a castle-like 1822 listed farmhouse. The space includes a weaving workshop with vintage George-Wood looms, design studio, and elegant showroom. By appointment only, the doors open to guests from around the world for private shopping experiences, offering rare behind-the-scenes access to Scotland’s fine handwoven textiles. As the largest employer of handweavers in Britain, Araminta Campbell’s atelier is home to master artisans who uphold time-honoured traditions, handweaving shawls, scarves, blanket wraps and throws using the finest British alpaca wool. Visitors will enjoy a private tour of the workshop, witness the intricate craft in action, and even try their hand at weaving. The showroom presents a curated selection of heirloom-quality designs from the Signature and Heritage Tartan Collections, from which visitors can shop, guided by Araminta Campbell artisans. The visits take place from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00.
