In this three-day course, Julia Astreou-Christoforou will teach you all the basics you need to know about Cypriot weaving. After an introduction to plain weaving with the Cypriot traditional loom, you will move on to discover the Phyti design, the most characteristic type of Cypriot weaving, known for its vibrant colours and geometrical shapes, and the Asproploumia technique, an open type lace weave achieved by twisting and interweaving threads. As well as the chance to discover her workshop and the ways in which she creates, Julia will present the history of Cypriot weaving, during which you will get the chance to see archived samples.
