Learn to make an instrument in Santiago

with Roberto Hernández Céspedes

Introduction to Latin American plucked string instruments

In this private course, luthier Roberto Hernández Céspedes teaches his student how to handle tools and techniques to craft instruments. The course begins with a historical overview of the instrument being constructed. The type of wood to be used is also discussed, including its density and origin. Techniques for building the instrument itself are explained. At the same time, Roberto discusses the tools to be used and their care, as well as the apprentice's safety when using them. All techniques are taught until the student is capable of crafting an instrument on their own. The workshop lasts 50 hours divided into two hours per week. Please note that there is a 300 EUR charge for registration and materials in addition to the hourly fee of 30 EUR per hour.
