Van Den Weghe was established in 1969, in the East Flanders province of Belgium, but has radically changed course since that time. While founder Carlos Van Den Weghe focused on concrete, his son Philippe decided to work more with natural stone in the 1980s. The current owner, Tanguy Van Quickenborne, carved out an international reputation for the atelier as a high-end processor of natural stone for luxury design. Van Den Weghe developed a unique approach to terrazzo by combining technology, aesthetics and craftsmanship.
The team travels the world to find the most inspiring materials, which are then processed in the workshops for custom-built projects and objects in the fields of architecture, interior, design and art. The allure of its noble stone is valued by renowned architects, artists and designers all over the world. French architect Jean Nouvel collaborated with Van Den Weghe when constructing the prestigious Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi. Van Den Weghe is also strongly dedicated to innovation, as is for example proven by its ingenious Lapris plug-sockets, subtly integrated in the stone.
