Working together at a renowned Finnish ceramics brand, Fred Owren and Henna Lamberg realised they not only shared a mutual interest in ceramic as a material but also a passion for Finnish craftsmanship. Gradually this passion grew to an idea for a company of their own and VAJA was born in 2011. The couple renovated a shed ('vaja' in Finnish) in their big garden, and commenced the planning, product development and production of their own product line. From day one, the aim was to create high-quality and timeless tableware without forgetting good functionality. Today, VAJA produces seven ceramic product series characterised by minimal design combined with decorative patterns.
Since the beginning, the manufacturer has wanted to keep the production in Finland in its own factory and employ professional ceramicists. The decision mirrors the company values and also ensures the quality of the products and an ethical production chain. The workshop is located in Porvoo, a city some 50 kilometres from Helsinki known for its handcraft traditions.
