At their first meeting in 1995, Tuula Jusélius and designer-architect Seppo Koho realised they shared a respect for Scandinavian design and professional woodworking. So was born Secto Design. In the beginning, the working couple focused on furniture. However, at the time there were no wooden lamps on the market to match this furniture. That absence inspired the conical Secto 4200 pendant which became the backbone of the Secto Design collection of wooden lamps. Since 2002, the family-owned company has focused solely on lamps. The handmade collection, made out of certified birch veneer, currently consists of 29 models.
The minimalistic designs of Secto Design lamps, resulting from prototypes and experiments with the possibilities of wood, offer harmonious and warm light without a blinding shine due to their part-concealed light source. As such, they are suitable for public and private interiors creating, in Seppo Koho’s own words, ”lit-up spaces.” In ancient times, birchwood was regarded as the guardian of the people. That tradition continues in Secto Design lamps.
