Isabel Roos works with vivid colours, structures and organic patterns to create immersive, visual worlds that are uniquely hers. “I like to dive so deep into a project that it fills all my thoughts,” says Isabel. This passion for immersive exploration shapes her practice's aesthetic. With degrees in illustration and scientific illustration from HAW Hamburg, Isabel’s works move between focused observation, research and creative invention. Her illustrations often begin with analogue ink drawings and evolve into intricately crafted, multi-layered scenes. By inserting fine, highly detailed structures into her illustrations, she imparts a distinct internal logic to each piece.

- What do you enjoy most about working on illustration projects?
- I love that illustration constantly challenges me to explore new subjects. The deep research behind each project keeps me learning and enriches my process. It influences not just my work, but my perspective on the world.
- How important are traditional materials in your practice?
- Working with traditional tools grounds my process. Ink, acrylics, markers, charcoal, oil paints, graphite, watercolour, collage and printmaking techniques each carry their own character and rhythm. When I transition into the digital stage, I work in a way that preserves and emphasises the tactile, analogue textures. They bring richness, depth and a physical sense of presence to the final image.
- How would you describe the atmosphere in your images?
- My images invite curiosity, reflection and a deeper sensory experience. I want viewers to feel like they are entering a vivid dream or exploring a forgotten ecosystem.
- What do others usually not know about your work?
- I always aim to grow and develop as an artist by exploring new ideas and techniques. At the same time, I try to stay connected to the core of my style, so my work remains authentic and recognisable. The search for this balance is an ongoing and crucial part of my creative journey.
