What inspired you to become a guitar maker?
My journey began with a love for music and a fascination with how guitars create emotion through sound. I also enjoyed hands-on work. Repairing an old guitar made me realise I could combine these passions into one craft.
How do you select the materials for your guitars?
Choosing the right materials is both an art and a science. I choose tonewoods for their resonance and character, like spruce for brightness or rosewood for depth. Sustainability is key, so I prioritise ethically sourced or reclaimed wood. Each wood has its own personality, and I select those that complement each other.
What is the biggest challenge you face as a luthier?
Balancing tradition with innovation is a constant challenge. Musicians want vintage warmth but also modern playability and durability. Finding the sweet spot where old-world craftsmanship meets new-world needs keeps me on my toes. Each piece of wood is unique, so no two builds are the same.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Seeing a musician light up when they play one of my guitars for the first time. There is nothing like hearing them say it feels like “home” in their hands or that it inspires them to create. Knowing that something I built can spark joy or even shape a career is incredibly fulfilling.
