The Ceccaldi family has been handcrafting knives at Coutellerie Ceccaldi in Corsica since 1978. Today, brothers Sylvestre and Simon run the business from their atelier in Porticcio. They have inherited their parents’ passion for knife making, and learned the craft through countless hours in their family workshop during their childhood and summer vacations. The family business still stands today for its authenticity, creativity and longevity, proudly asserting its Corsican identity. Coutellerie Ceccaldi's knives tell tales of heirlooms, making the atelier a guardian of age-old traditions and bearer of secular values.
At Coutellerie Ceccaldi, master blacksmiths and knife makers create knives with local dry woods, through forging, sharpening and quenching, which means heating steel to 1000°C. The atelier produces around 8,000 knives yearly, and is certified as an 'Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant', bestowed by the government for exceptional craftsmanship and industrial expertise. Their range has evolved to include kitchen, pocket, table and chef’s knives, but one typical Corsican model, le couteau de berger corse, remains the atelier’s most emblematic creation.
