Established in 2020 during the Covid lockdown by Nabil Slaoui, Barok specialises in crafting authentic and fashionable Moroccan babouche shoes. Born from a deep-rooted passion for preserving cultural heritage, the workshop aspires to celebrate one of the country's iconic products, the babouche slipper. From meticulously tanning leather to assembling each piece with precision, the artisans at Barok pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of the medina of Fez.
Barok is committed to using only locally sourced high-quality leather, such as goat leather organically tanned at the historical Chouarra Tannery in Fez. Through collaborations with local and international designers and artists, including Rime Sbaï, they craft exclusive and distinctive collections that revive the babouche as a contemporary trend. The Alfila collection, created in collaboration with designer Hicham Lahlou, has elevated the babouche into the realm of contemporary art, earning it a place in the prestigious Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem.
