For more than 150 years, Atelier Lognon has been perpetuating the craft of artisanal pleating, a rare savoir-faire that has been passed down through generations of professionals and that can only be learned in the workshop. The atelier's history goes back to Emilie Lognon, a luxury linen maker in the era of Napoleon III, who became inspired to try curling fabrics with her irons – an experiment that gave rise to real craftsmanship. By 1945, when Emilie’s great-grandson Gérard Lognon took over the workshop, Atelier Lognon had already become a major player in Parisian haute couture.
To this day, using cardboard moulds, each fold is traced and carefully broken by hand to form the mould. Each type of pleat requires a precise process. The atelier's craftspeople are able to design anything, from classic patterns to the most fanciful pleats in a variety of fabrics. Atelier Lognon joined Chanel's Métiers d'Art in 2013, and has an exceptional heritage of over 3,000 patterns, reflecting the different periods and styles it has accompanied. The creative dialogue between the atelier and the great names in fashion, such as Chanel and Christian Dior, carries on today.
