A breath of new life for vintage items

Antea and Jovana are a Belgrade-based artistic duo
They opened their workshop in December 2009
They call what they do 'eco-recycling'

Slovenian-born painter Antea Arizanović and Serbian costume designer Jovana Božović together founded Remake as a joint venture, to create completely new items for the household from used vintage objects. Making original works of art that reinterpret forgotten items inside vintage kitchen cabinets, they like to call what they do 'eco-recycling'. Used plates, cups, bowls, and other carefully designed items are transformed into brand new household items that speak a new, modern artistic language. In addition to recycling, Antea and Jovana decorate unused porcelain tea and coffee cups and plates made using techniques of collage and hand painting. They sell their works in their studio in the centre of Belgrade and via their e-shop.

How would you describe what you do?: We revive vintage items by giving them new meaning and a new context, so that people can see and feel these old items in a new light. We like to call what we do creating a legacy for new generations.
What was the first object you made?: It was a plate with a deer on it, a wall plate to be more precise. We painted it by hand and fired it in a home oven. We sold that item to a family member, who wanted to support our startup, so luckily, this object is still near us.
What do you love most about your work?: There are many things we love about our profession. We always try to create a nice atmosphere in our studio. When we were children, we thought we were going to save the world when we grew up, and now we are saving old porcelain and giving it new life.
What is one thing about your work that people do not normally know?: We are artists and we love the collage technique. All our products are handmade. Each dot is cut from a large sheet of paper and hand-placed in the right spot. We do not mass produce. All our products are made in small batches.
